At SOCIALDEVIANT, the way we work defines our culture. But that doesn’t mean we’re a company of working stiffs. We know how to have fun. Every Friday, we get pizza and salads delivered to the office for lunch; everyone grabs a plate and heads to “Couchville.” Pizza Friday didn’t start as a way to build our camaraderie; it exists because of our camaraderie.
Pizza Friday is a small reward for the week of hard work we put in for our clients #treatyoself. But it isn’t just a social break from work. It’s an opportunity for us to do lunch-and-learns, to hear each other present case studies, to share our expertise and learn more about the value of peer mentoring. Even for small companies like ours, the investment in pizza is negligible compared to the return it has.
As a startup, we celebrate wins big and small every day. And weekly events like Pizza Friday help us recognize each other. Frankly, if we didn’t have Pizza Friday, we’d have something similar (Tuna Tuesdays, anyone?). Why? Because it’s important to acknowledge those around you.
Pizza isn’t a reward nor is it an icebreaker. We’re people. We like food (especially mushroom and sausage pizza). We appreciate a fact that many companies seem to forget: for better or worse, SOCIALDEVIANT is made up of humans, first and foremost. And every Friday, we make sure to step away for our laptops and acknowledge that.
